Jon M Queen DC Over the Green Tariff Limitations
Jon M Queen DC‘s studies and opinions over the green energy opportunities in Ukraine represent some of the most comprehensive research operations in this field. According to Jon M Queen, Ukraine is the European country with the highest potential. Prior to its glowing times in the Soviet Union, the energy was produced with the hydroelectric power stations. The ’70s and the ’80s came with a huge impact over the economy due to the nuclear power projects. These days, the nuclear power is just as important in the country.
With all these, more and more companies try to get to the green energy. There are four alternative sources in the former Soviet Union country – the solar energy, the hydropower, the agriculture and the biomass energy. At the same time, the political pressure in the country has convinced the government to adopt the Green Tariff project, which was designed with some of the world’s finest specialists. Jon M Queen DC’s studies foresee an amazing growth in this field in the upcoming decades. Besides, the Green Tariff program is supposed to be fully implemented by 2030.
However, no good things come for free. Although the project is open to any investor, whether Ukrainian or foreign, there are also some limitations, restrictions and rules. The energy infrastructure in the country is old and updated. It requires comprehensive repair operations. It is very unstable for the current requests, so any new sources and fluctuations may be fatal for it. Jon M Queen claims such repairs should be conducted by the Ukrainian government, but no such plans were adopted so far. The same goes for the hydropower, which requires the renovation and update of the hundreds of hydroelectric power stations in the country. They were so popular before the nuclear boom that Ukraine was full of them. The good news is that most of them are still there and waiting for some updates to work again.
Other than that, the Ukrainian government limitations imply using at least 30% Ukrainian origin equipment. Starting with 2014, those who want to invest in this field must get 50% Ukrainian origin tools. According to many officials, this requirement is an obstacle, while others suggest the government should definitely step in to help in the process. At the same time, the government tries to stimulate other domains as well with this Green Tariff program. No one knows how such plans will work on Ukraine’s future.
